Challenge

Up to 70% of opioids prescribed after surgery go unused every year, and it’s important to get rid of those expired and unused medications to prevent substance misuse and accidental poisoning of children or pets. But while many of us know that we shouldn’t toss pill bottles in the trash or flush medication down the toilet, we’re less knowledgeable about safe alternatives. The Prevention Coalition of Broome County is stepping up to make safe drug disposal easy and convenient with Drug Take Back Day events, and the organization re-engaged Idea Kraft to launch a campaign that advertises the event and educates the community about the importance of proper disposal.

Solution

Billboard, broadcast and digital ads advertised the event and led viewers to an educational landing page. By letting people know that there is a better way to dispose of medication and sharps, our dynamic, multi-media campaign highlighted the problems of improper disposal and explained how Drug Take Back Day works to solve them.

The Drug Take Back Day Event on Saturday far exceeded my expectations. The work that the Idea Kraft team did to promote the event through media channels was crucial to its success. I absolutely love all of the materials that were created and couldn’t be happier with the turnout.
