5 Top Design Trends for 2025
At Idea Kraft, we believe in the importance of asking “what’s next?” – not just as designers but as creative problem solvers and proactive thinkers. But following a trend just to follow a trend has never been our style, either. Seeing what other creatives are doing keeps us on our toes and inspires us to dig deeper, think wider, and bring new ideas to our clients.
As we set out to create our design and branding forecast for the new year, we did so with one main goal in mind: highlight the ideas that will feel fresh and have the power to keep brands competitive in the long term. Keep reading to see which design trends we predict will do just that in 2025.
1. Imaginative Illustration
Going into 2025, we’re going to see a departure from the realist aesthetics that have dominated in recent years. Illustrations – especially whimsical, maximalist ones – are about to be everywhere.
This style of illustration is all about pushing boundaries and tapping into a playful sense of imagination. Bright colors and intricate details are what make this trend work so well. It’s loud in the best way possible, bringing personality and approachability to virtually any application.
That means it’s versatile enough for all kinds of companies to get in on the fun. From nonprofits like AHADI Foundation to public art advertisements, brands will jump on this design trend in 2025 to inspire curiosity in an increasingly competitive marketplace.
2. Creative Contours
Symmetry, clean lines, and geometric shapes are pillars of the graphic design discipline. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fun with them.
In 2025, we’ll continue to see an uptick in branding and graphic design concepts that bend the rules by bending the way we’re used to seeing shapes. From athletic brands Killington Resort to tech startups like Mentessa, organizations of all stripes are getting into this creative contours trend.
While classic geometric shapes will always be effective, this design trend signals an exciting evolution toward a more modern, dynamic approach. It’s also sophisticated but versatile enough to be used in logos, websites, and promotional materials.
3. More Motion
Motion is in high demand. Canva recently reported that searches for motion and animation templates on their platform increased by 109% and 78% respectively in the past year.
If that jump in general interest is any indication, the motion trend will only get stronger in 2025. And it won’t be long before brands – especially indie and specialized brands with tech-savvy audiences – start to notice and offer a more sophisticated version.
It will be animated logos, custom video, and interactive digital experiences that will win sustained user interest. In 2025, one of the biggest design trends will be incorporating motion with a balance of creativity and practicality like SauceLabs exemplifies on their website.
4. Bold, Minimal Typography
In a world of sensory overload, less truly is more. And the rise of bold typography paired with bold copywriting is proof.
By using only words, colors, and typographic treatment, this approach is all about making a strong statement – literally and figuratively. In 2025, we’ll see more copy-forward concepts that make great use of custom typefaces, funky fonts, or oversized lettering.
Although it’s more restrained than some of the other trends on the list, a minimal typographic approach is no less inventive. It takes expertise to cut back without watering down, which may be why this style feels so refreshing in the wake of generative AI art that still reads a bit over-the-top.
See how the brands Snack with Benefits and Johnny Pep Microfarm are getting in on the trend.
5. Mixing Mediums
Lastly, 2025 will bring more of what we’re calling “mixed medium” designs.
It’s delightful. It’s inventive. And it’s a bit hard to categorize or define, which is maybe why it’s so captivating. Mixed medium concepts blend formats, textures, and mediums that are normally separate or completely unrelated to each other.
It’s a design trend that’s better experienced than described. Here’s one example: a concert poster takes the form of a puzzle in this concept by Russian designer Anya Mordvinova. On the more whimsical side, Mondlicht Studios blended the mediums of food and fashion with their fast food handbags.
Not exactly your brand’s style? The collage approach may be a viable alternative. Collages still embrace unexpected textures and can be used to create a similar surreal effect.
